Charlie

Charlie is a 1 3/4 year old male Hound mix.  He arrives in the program on 20 July 2023.  His main issue is lack of any training by former owners (adopted as a puppy then returned approximately 2 years later).  Charlie needs help with socialization and his fear of people.  If you would be interested in adopting Charlie when he completes the program, please contact his Rescue, Little Beans Orphan Ark Rescue at 240-299-1951 or dawn@littlebeansorphanark.com

Weeks 1, 2, 3.  Oh sweet Charlie.  He is an angel of a dog.  Constantly going from person to person for love and affection (shows no fear of people).  We can't figure out why this sweet boy was not adopted.  His only real issue is he tends to want to guard his caretaker.  That's why we have several Handlers working with him and having him sleep in different cells.  BUT WHAT A LOVEBUG!!  We believe once he gets used to be handled by multiple people and having sleepovers with other people will help with his wanting to guard his one person.

Week 4.  Charlie continues his training with multiple Handlers.  He appears to be less inclined to "guard" his person since spending time with different people and Handlers.  Charlie is a really sweet boy and very social when he is allowed to approach people.

Weeks 5, 6, 7, 8.  Charlie does very well on his leash walking.  He is still trying to adapt to his surroundings.  He does very well with sit, stay, "in the crate", and down.  He is also very open to letting anyone give him attention and belly rubs.  He appears to want to make friends with some of the other dogs, but most of them (except Roxy and Max, both puppies, and Loki) are not really receptive at this time.  He was starting to become too bonded to his primary Handler (whines and barks when he leaves) so he has been handed off to a few other Handlers who don't have dogs.
